On The Box: Words of Comfort: Ben Hur

On The Box: Words of Comfort: Ben Hur: "I love the scene in the movie “Ben Hur” where a Roman soldier is marching condemned galley-slaves through the desert. They stop in Nazareth for a break, but as the thirsty slaves are being given water, the head honcho says that Judah Ben Hur wasn’t to have a drop. Judah collapses on the ground and gasps “God help me…” Suddenly, a shadow comes over him and a hand gently lifts his weary head from the dirt, and pours water into his parched lips. I have watched that scene numerous times and have never failed to sob like a child, because what I see is so similar to what happened to me in my conversion experience."

One liners

One liners: "

There was once a zealous Christian farmer who wanted
to use different words than "giddyup" and "woah" as
commands for his horse. So he taught the horse to respond
to "Praise the Lord" and "Hallelujah". When the farmer
shouted "Praise the Lord", the horse would take off in
a fast gallop."

Is "what would Jesus do?" (WWJD) something we should seek to live by?: "“What would Jesus do?” is a popular religious expression on bracelets, necklaces, and T-shirts with the initials WWJD. The idea behind WWJD is that to know how to do the right thing, we simply ask ourselves, “What would Jesus do?” At first glance, this appears to be a good idea. However, is this something Christians should live by?"

AlbertMohler.com – A Warped Worldview: Another Moral Effect of Pornography: "The moral effects of pornography are, by now, well attested. The scourge of pornography has brought ruin and harm into the lives of millions of our friends and neighbors, destroying marriages, distorting sexuality, and poisoning minds. Even so, the pornography industrial complex continues to grow, representing one of the most lucrative segments of the Internet economy."

Why Pope Francis Excites (Most) Evangelical Leaders | Christianity Today

Why Pope Francis Excites (Most) Evangelical Leaders | Christianity Today: "Pope Francis has drawn much attention for being the first pope to come from the ranks of the Americas and the Jesuits, as well as take the name Francis. But evangelical observers highlight other reasons for enthusiasm for yesterday's precedent-setting election of Jorge Mario Bergoglio, former archbishop of Buenos Aires, to replace Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI after his surprising resignation."
