Louisiana sheriff stands up for his right to pray
Louisiana sheriff stands up for his right to pray: "BOSSIER PARISH, La. — On July 4, a Louisiana sheriff and a team of supporters plan to celebrate their freedom to worship as they please.
Bossier Parish's top lawman, Sheriff Julian Whittington, doesn't see how it's anyone's business how or when he prays except the people who elected him to his office, and he believes those folks are behind him when he says, "In God We Trust." He'll be saying as much Friday at a rally offering food, music, fun and prayer."

The Comfort Zone: Words of Comfort: Jim Jones and the truth.: "The Rev. Jim Jones of Jonestown and Peoples Temple led 909 men, women, and children in mass suicide in 1978. He said, "Our people, I would say, are ninety percent atheist...I felt somewhat hypocritical for the last years as I became an atheist...My bishop knows that I'm an atheist...He must have spent twenty thousand dollars traveling around, hoping to get my denomination to remove me, because I was so atheistic." C. RICHARD WELLS: Are we ashamed of the Gospel?
C. RICHARD WELLS: Are we ashamed of the Gospel?: "There was a time when Christianity was cool. Many of us can still remember “born-again” politics in the '70s, and many of us grew up in a place and time where “going to church” was the thing to do.
Here and there, we still find pockets of Christian cool. When I went to teach at a university down South a few years ago, I received an orientation guide which — along with notes on campus services and getting a driver’s license — alerted incoming faculty (especially from, say, California!) that it was common in West Tennessee to ask newcomers, “Have you found a church yet?"

The Comfort Zone: Words of Comfort: 2 world-views
The Comfort Zone: Words of Comfort: 2 world-views: "There are two basic world-views in this life. We either justify men or we justify God. Take for instance this statement: "The Bible says the best of mankind is evil." If you love God you will immediately nod with approval of that statement. You will justify God. If you haven't been converted, you will more than likely be quick to justify man (and of course yourself). "
